Registered Nurse - Seniors Mental Health & Behavioural Supports Ontario (2024-04)

Full-Time • Temiskaming Shores Region

Reporting directly to the Program Manager of CMHA and indirectly to the Regional Manager of North Bay Regional Health Centre, The Senior’s Mental Health (SMH) Case Manager (RN) will provide comprehensive mental health nursing services to clients served by the Senior’s Mental Health Program-Regional Consultation Service for the purpose of maintaining and/or reintegrating individuals in the community at their optimal level of functioning. The SMH program is a consultation service that is committed to meeting the needs of individuals with age-related mental illness. The Registered Nurse will also collaborate with health care agencies/providers to identify support services that will ensure clients’ mental health care needs are met and that individuals can remain safely in their homes. 

Additionally, the Registered Nurse will fulfill the Clinical Behavioural Response Specialist role and will be responsible for the provision of Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) services to the clients and families of the community and long-term care homes. The main objective of this service is to improve the quality of life for older adults with mental health, substance use, dementia, delirium, and other neurological disorders with responsive behaviours as well as improving the lives of their care partners.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse and current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Knowledge of current community mental health issues and nursing theory and practice related to mental health;
  • Previous nursing experience in mental health and Geriatric Psychiatry;
  • Canadian certificate in Gerontology (CNA certification) or willingness to obtain, P.I.E.C.E.S training, U-First!, Gentle Persuasive Approach, Montessori Methods, Recovery Approach, Psychiatric Nursing certificate;
  • Knowledge of consent and capacity issues and legislation involving this population (i.e. Public Guardian Trustee, Substitute Decision Maker Act, Health Care Consent Act; Mental Health Act and PHIPA;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work autonomously and clinical competence and applied inter-collaborative skills to promote, facilitate and integrate best practice principles in geriatric mental health and behavioural health required;
  • Valid driver’s licence and use of a reliable vehicle; Travelling will be required;
  • The ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages is required;
