Job Summary:
The Accounting Clerk – Accounts Receivable plays an important role within the Corporate Services Department as clerical support to the Treasurer. This position is responsible for preparing invoices, processing payments, and reconciling accounts to ensure timely and accurate financial transactions.
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible to create and send invoicing and billing statements to customers.
- Must receive and process payments for customers via various methods such as cash, cheque, PAP, and EFT.
- Promptly and professionally respond to various inquiries customers in-person, by phone or email.
- Process and balance all payments of taxes, accounts receivables and general receipts and prepare bank deposits as required.
- Follow-up on receivable accounts currently in arrears, strictly in accordance with the internal accounts receivable policy.
- Must respond to public inquiries, complaints, requests and concerns regarding taxation and other related issues.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly funding claim reports as required.
- Prepare and issue water/sewer meter quarterly billing.
- Prepare and maintain monthly reports for transit, A/R, taxation and suspense accounts.
- Properly maintain PSAB database.
- Prepare and maintain PL database and annual renewal letters
- Prepare bi-annual PAP application letters to be provided to appropriate parties.
- Provide excellent customer-service at front-desk and by phone as needed.
- Complete balance adjustments as required in all accounting functions.
- Responsible for adhering to all municipal policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties as needed and requested by the Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Post-Secondary diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or related field is required.
- Two (2) years of related experience in accounting and/or debt collection is preferred.
- Computer literacy and proficiency particularly with Excel and other accounting software would be an asset.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset
- Accurate date entry skills
