The District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board supports individuals in need throughout our communities by delivering Children’s Services, Emergency Medical Services, Ontario Works and Social Housing through the effective use of available resources and in the best interest of the individuals we support. We are currently seeking a qualified candidate:
Temporary Full-time / Six (6) Month Contract / Temiskaming Shores
Competition Number: 19-10
Salary Range: $21.71 – $25.35 per hour (35 hours per week)
The incumbent is the first point of contact, as a representative of the DTSSAB, in welcoming individuals to the DTSSAB office and responding to calls. With knowledge of programs delivered by the DTSSAB, the Receptionist provides effective, client-centric service in a pleasant, respectful and professional manner. This position also provides general administrative support to all DTSSAB programs. This position is unionized.
In this position you will:
? Create a positive experience by providing friendly, prompt client service (in person and by telephone)
? Connect individuals to appropriate staff and/or program
? Respond to general inquiries, provide routine information about Programs and about the steps to obtain services
? Oversee the client waiting area, update client notice boards and control office access
? Accept payments and provide receipts for cash and cheques received
? Complete paperwork (including copying, faxing, emailing), maintain electronic and paper documents, as well as client files
? Manage incoming and outbound mail
? Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
? Post-secondary education in Office Administration or a related program is preferred, with training in office procedures
? Minimum of six (6) months of direct client-service experience in a multi-faceted work environment, preferably working in a human or social services setting. An equivalent combination of education/experience may also be considered
? Commitment and willingness to serve vulnerable and, at times, marginalized clientele
? Empathy and demonstrated respect and openness to diversity, including to life’s various circumstances
? Strong communication skills (ability to listen carefully and empathetically to concerns or questions, convey messages thoughtfully, speak professionally and clearly, write competently)
? Excellent interpersonal skills to establish rapport, make visitors feel at ease, as well as to work effectively as a team member
? Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving and coping skills to handle demanding or stressful situations and/or emotionally charged clients; awareness, patience, professional composure, tact, diplomacy and assertiveness are essential
? Proven adaptability, conscientiousness, organizational skills and the ability to successfully follow directions and procedures
? Computer proficiency and the capacity to learn various programs and databases used by the DTSSAB
? Bilingualism (fluency and proficiency in both French and English written and verbal communication) is a requirement
Supervisory references will be required from candidates invited to an interview. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the candidate will provide a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Search.
